It has been 4 years since I last wrote on this blog. Not quite sure why I wrote one time and then stopped but my daughter has sparked my interest again. She has started a new blog but doesn't want me to give out any information to anyone yet. I have read her postings and as always I love to read her writings. Her blog is about her adventures in cooking. She is a wonderful cook and is always trying new dishes.
Well it is the day after the Big Blizzard of 2011. Wow, was that a storm or was that a storm.
On Monday I really had my doubts about whether it would really take place or were the Weathermen just pulling our legs again. They like to wet our appetite with big weather events and then let us down at the last minute. Do you think they just do that so that we will tune in again for the ten o'clock news? Gary is always bragging about his three degree warranty. But does anyone ever keep track of what he predicts to see if he is correct? It doesn't really matter to me but my husband would like to catch him in his error if he could.
I woke up on Tuesday morning and opened my living room blinds to find an all out blizzard happening. As I sat drinking my coffee, watching the very few cars go by on the street in front of our house, I was debating on whether or not I should venture out to work. My husband and I discussed it and were about to make a decision when the telephone rang. After the second ring I picked up the phone receiver and said hello. At the other end was my co-worker. She was calling me to say the store would be closed for the day. This is the first time in 20years the store has closed it's doors. I was very happy to get the good news.
I had a very nice day, because I had my laundry done had made a pot of vegetable soup the day before and if I wanted too I could embroider all day long.
Now my neighbor next door is what I call compulsive. I wonder sometimes what gets into him.
During the heaviest part of the blizzard he decides to go out and start shoveling his driveway. He dug a path big enough to get his car out of the garage so he could take his wife to work the next morning at 3:30 am. Only one problem, within two hours the snow had accumulated as much as was there before he shoveled the first time. He was right back where he started.
This morning we awoke to the sun shining and drifts of snow up past our knees. My husband being the very nice man that he is shoveled a path to the van and around the van so I could get out and go to work today. I always think the snow with the sun shining on it is beautiful to look at. The roads to work were pretty good since I stayed on the main thoroughfares. The side streets were a different story. I could see they had not been plowed and can imagine those residents were a little miffed. Coming home this evening I checked out the side roads and it appeared the roads had been plowed. Thank you Kansas City.
Well, I guess I have said enough tonight. It is midnight and I should really go to bed. It is amazing how fast time passes when you are doing something you really like to do.
Life is not waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.
Good Night
